Breaking Samskaras (habits)

Breaking HabitsYoga teaches us to honor our bodies. We hear it from all of our teachers, and we know that we should! It’s just so hard to break with unhealthy habits! Yoga helps us do it, but we’ve got to be patient. Be patient while your yoga practice clears away the debris in your body, and your mind, and your heart. It may take a long while to route new pathways toward health. If you assert your will over your body before it is ready, it will feel the deprivation, and those addictions will pull on you even harder. Then your suffering will be even greater. As your yoga practice develops, you will notice you begin holding on to your habits lightly. You will still have preferences, but you will make fewer demands. You may eventually notice that you’ve let go of an old habit without much struggle or without even noticing. This new honoring of your body, mind and heart will bring energy, vitality and strength to you. Your whole life may change–a bold assertion, but true! To honor the body means to feel as good as you were designed to feel. Every Day. In Every Way.
